Back-to-back champions among over twenty teams at a prestigious event that also honored Marco Polacci

Santa Clara Golf has emerged victorious in the XXIII Pro-Am Costa del Golf Turismo, hosted at their venue. This marks the second consecutive year the team has claimed the title. Chaparral Golf and Hacienda la Alcaidesa secured second and third places, respectively, in this highly anticipated tournament.

A Meeting Point for Costa del Sol’s Golf Community

This significant event brought together over twenty golf clubs and a team of specialized journalists. According to Margarita Del Cid, CEO of Turismo Costa del Sol, this annual gathering “strengthens connections across Málaga’s golf sector and paves the way for joint promotional efforts.”

Del Cid highlighted that the Pro-Am has become an essential meeting point for golf courses, professionals, and industry workers in the Costa del Sol.

“This annual event was created to unite the golf industry and promote one of the key attractions of our tourism offer: golf,” Del Cid explained.

She emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “The Pro-Am symbolizes the unity of all those who work tirelessly to make this segment such a success for our destination.”

Recognizing Excellence in the Golf Sector

Del Cid acknowledged the unwavering commitment of golf courses and professionals, noting, “Year after year, their dedication to this segment and to our destination is remarkable.”

She also extended gratitude to Santa Clara Golf for hosting the event, as well as Turismo Andaluz and the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation for their ongoing partnership in promoting both golf and the Costa del Sol as a top destination.

Special thanks were also directed towards local municipalities and golf course professionals, whose efforts maintain course quality at the highest standards. Del Cid expressed her excitement for the upcoming Solheim Cup 2023, which will further cement the Costa del Sol’s reputation as a premier golf destination.

Additionally, she paid tribute to Marco Polacci, who received a heartfelt homage for his invaluable contributions to the golf industry.

Golf Tourism: A Growing Asset for Costa del Sol

During her speech, Del Cid presented key statistics highlighting the importance of golf tourism to the region. With 74 golf courses, the Costa del Sol boasts the highest concentration of courses in mainland Europe.

She also pointed out the segment’s ability to combat seasonality and attract high-spending tourists, whose expenditures surpass those of the average visitor.

“Golf tourists contribute significantly to our local economy, generating €1.4 billion in revenue and creating 17,700 jobs in the Costa del Sol,” Del Cid noted.

She added that golfers rate the destination exceptionally high, with an average score of 9.24 out of 10. Key factors behind this satisfaction include safety, hospitality, and value for money. Furthermore, 98.7% of golf tourists recommend the Costa del Golf.

The Future of Golf Tourism

Del Cid concluded her remarks by reaffirming Turismo Costa del Sol’s commitment to the golf industry. She also stressed the need for golf to be officially recognized as a tourism activity, which would bring fiscal benefits and position it as a strategic sector within the broader tourism industry.

“Rest assured, we will continue supporting your initiatives and advocating for the golf industry to receive the recognition it deserves,” she affirmed.

With events like the XXIII Pro-Am Costa del Golf Turismo, the Costa del Sol continues to shine as Europe’s leading golf destination, attracting players and professionals from around the globe.
