In 2024, Leading Courses created a new category for the Golfers’ Choice Awards: the «Most Improved Golf Clubs.» This category is for the golf clubs that made the biggest improvements to their average review grade over the past year. This is the ranking for Spain.
As you are probably aware, we have many different categories in the Golfers’ Choice Rankings. Besides the rankings for «Best Golf Club» and «Best Golf Course», we used to have 8 other categories.
This year, we decided to add an 11th category. The all-new «Most Improved Golf Clubs» category looks specifically at how the average rating for all reviews of a golf club in 2023 compares with the average rating for all reviews in 2022. Which golf clubs have made the most improvements and increased their rating the most in the past year?
The Most Improved Golf Clubs ranking – Spain
1. Santa Clara Golf Club Marbella (+1.00)
Santa Clara Golf Club Marbella in Andalusia, Spain is the «Most Improved Golf Club» in Spain in 2024. They improved their average rating for all reviews in 2023 by a full point!
Santa Clara Golf Marbella is a technical and challenging but straightforward and pleasant course. One of Santa Clara Golf Club Marbella’s focus points is the maintenance of the course.
The course is highlighted by the “Santa Clara Corner” formed by the 12th, 13th and 14th holes, a perfect combination of pars 4, 3 and 5, which requires golfers to hit long and accurate shots.
2. Golf Costa Daurada (+0.66)
Golf Costa Daurada is located in the coastal region of Costa Daurada in the province of Tarragona. Their technical 18-hole golf course integrated in a Mediterranean environment and has a distance of 6,307 meters. They improved their 2023 average review rating by 0.66 points.
3. Son Muntaner Golf (ArabellaGolf) (+0.65)
An extraordinary design, greens that offer continuous challenges and careful maintenance make playing Son Muntaner a must for golfers who visit Mallorca. It’s the only golf course in the Balearic Islands that is part of the prestigious European Tour Destinations Association. They improved their 2023 average review rating by 0.65 points.
4. La Quinta Golf & Country Club (+0.52)
La Quinta Golf & Country club has a 27 holes golf course with 3 different combinations available. It was designed by Ryder Cup player Manuel Piñero and is located 5 minutes from Puerto Banús. They improved their 2023 average review rating by 0.52 points.
5. Altea Club De Golf (+0.49)
Hidden away on the lower slopes of the Sierra Bernia mountain, 15 minutes from Benidorm and Calpe, Altea Club De Golf is the oldest and one of the most picturesque golf courses on the Costa Blanca. It is characterised by the stunning mountain and sea views and a beautiful restaurant and terrace. They improved their 2023 average review rating by 0.49 points.
